It’s awesome to come back to the new apartment and find the kittens napping on the bed together.

In case anybody ever wonders how I find these stories related to electronic voting: at the beginning of the summer when I started working for the Division of Elections I created a Google News alert that emails me daily with any stories it finds containing the words “electronic voting” (not necessarily side by side).

California’s review of electronic votings apparently published some results. Of course, as per standard practice, it was quietly let out on a Friday afternoon. I love how people (read: gov’t state employees) try to slip this stuff by. Maybe not so much in this case, but I can think of other instances where bad news was made public late on Friday to avoid immediate press coverage.

The kittens suck; I just came back from the grocery and they had jumped onto my desk and knocked over water cup. The water ruined a bunch of papers on my desk (including my copy of my apartment lease) and the DVD cases for Harry Potter movies (borrowed from Brad and Sarah) and Office Space. Fuck.

The kitties are sleeping. Finally, peace and quiet ;-)

Sometimes I wish the ‘Shift’ key on the right side of the keyboard was not directly below the ‘Enter’ key. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been trying to type a capital letter inside of a website form and accidentally submitted it.

Just got home about an hour ago. The kittens have gotten so much bigger while I was gone! They appeared to miss me as well; they wouldn’t leave my lap until I had rubbed them for about twenty minutes.

The Voice of Harry Potter Can Keep a Secret →
I wonder if using different voices for each character makes the Harry Potter books better or worse. I bought an audiobook, Boomsday, a couple of months ago read by Jeanine Garofalo in which she made up a voice for each character. It annoyed me and made the already poor book worse.

Official hopes primary runs well  →
“I’m an optimist,” Carr said. “I believe every election will run perfectly. I hope that’s the case Tuesday. If not, we’ll deal with the problem when it gets here.” This is completely asinine. Things didn’t work last year, so we’ll just _hope_ it works this year?!

Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix disappointed. I know the movies can not be the books, but there is still no reason for the movie to be so choppy and jumpy. There were times I was completely lost as to what was going on and I’ve read the book twice! It’s barely worth mentioning that so many things were (needlessly?) changed that I wonder why they bother to “base” the...

Day Tripper
I went on a great day trip today. Christine’s boyfriend Brandon was in town and Christine’s other friends Alexis and Corey (not sure if that’s how Corey spells it) had suggested a day trip of “lazy river” tubing down a nearby river. Originally we planned on going to Ichetucknee Springs at a nearby state park, but because it is a state park we could not have beer...

iTunes Happenings
I just noticed that iTunes has changed the way they sort Artist names. I’m not sure, but I think the change must have been in 7.3 because I only noticed it a couple of days ago. The first change I noticed is that Artist names starting with a number, e.g. 311, are now sorted last, i.e. after the letter Z, whereas they were previously sorted first, i.e. before the letter A. Kind of...

The electronic voting machines used were Diebold machines. Glad to hear the problem wasn’t how the machines worked, but rather the election officials not being honest.

Vet Trip Results
The girls had a good vet trip today. They both fairly healthy, though they both had some stuff in their right ear and Julie’s right eye was red and I have to put a gel in it twice a day for a week. They both have to take some drops once a day that acts to get rid of common stomach parasites, even though both their poop samples were good. Julie weighed 1.4 pounds and Shelly weighed 1.2 (not...

Not A Great Night
Shelly peed on my bed. I’m not sure why; I had just laid down to sleep around 2ish and the kittens had already climbed up onto my bed to nap. I thought Shelly was acting funny because was trying to dig around the edge where the bed meets the wall, but I assumed she was just playing around. Luckily I smelled the cat urine before she even finished peeing so I was able to get her off (I put...

The kittens first vet visit is tomorrow morning. I hope it goes well (and not too expensive!). We’ve shifted projects at work this past week. Maybe shifted projects is too strong a way of putting it; we’ve moved onto a distinct, but related project that Dr. Y has kept everybody over for. Speaking of work, I didn’t hear from NSWC-PC on Friday. I have to admit I was pretty...
