Labor Day Weekend
I decided that I need to get out of Panama City for the weekend. So I’m driving up to North Carolina to visit both Jon King and Kathy Coop, who live in High Point and Greensboro respectively. I’ve only seen Jon at weddings since leaving High Point for Florida and hadn’t seen Kathy since we broke up so its long overdue to see them both.

Last night I started running again. The annual “try to lose weight by exercise, but give up after a month because of lack of progress.” I know it takes at least three months to see results, so lets see what I can pull of by Christmas.  I did 4 miles in just under 45 minutes for (according to treadmill) 810 calories.

Mixed feelings: happy that a friend appears to be starting a new relationship; sad that you don’t see them much, especially when they’re the only person you know in an area you just moved to.

I find it odd that iTunes “Party Shuffle” mode has managed to generate a much more intersting selection of songs than the iPod’s “Shuffle Songs” mode.

Why won’t my cats let me use the bathroom in peace? Seriously, every time I take a shower or heed the call of nature they’ll rush in like its some kind of big event they don’t want to miss. Weirdos.

One day shy of a month after moving in, I finally have light fixtures (i.e., ceiling fans with light) in all the major rooms of my apartment. Hurray!

I spoke with Jon on the phone yesterday afternoon for the first time since Katie’s wedding this summer. Things seem to be going well for him: his project at Hubbell is nearing completion after three years and he’s been seeing a girl for the past two months. His girlfriend sounds nice and seems to have her life focused, which is a nice change of pace from some of the girls he had...

I saw the movie Superbad last night. I thought it was very funny, though it was slightly too blue. Not that I would have changed anything, but just the sheer vulgarity took my breath away—it was less full of the standard words like “fuck” and filled more with high school style “dickface” and other less heard swearing. One of the things that really struck me about...

There’s at least one nice thing about the god-awful heat during Florida summers: when you hop in the pool after work the water is nice and warm!

Among other activities tonight in Tallahassee, I went roller-skating. I hadn’t skated in years. Young crowd, but still fun. Good date idea?

I feel useless at work. Worse than useless. I know it takes time to ramp-up and learn your way around a new job, but it still bothers me. Especially when I forget to do something or screw up. It’s like, you’re only given this one little thing to do and you can’t even do that right. I know I need to just grow up and toughen up, but I seriously felt like crying for a moment at work...

A few hours later...
I finally managed to get the light fixture on the ceiling fan installed. After searching on the web a bit more I decided to say fuck it. I knew that a wire is a wire so I just cut the end off the end of each wire with a box cutter. I guess it doesn’t matter that I can’t remove the plastic cap when I can just cut around it. I wish I could say it was easy after that, but it...

Shopping Barbie
I feel like Shopping Barbie. I was in dire need of some household goods (namely cat food and cat litter) and I also wanted some new work shoes. So I headed to the Panana City mall after work. I ended up buying way more stuff than I originally meant to. While walking through JCPenney to the main mall I saw that they were selling St. John’s Bay short-sleeve shirts (the kind you would wear to...

So I started playing World of Warcraft last week, on the suggestion of my friend Kenny. I didn’t think I’d like it, but so far I’m hooked. I was playing the free trial and I ended up going out to buy the full version over the weekend. I’m such a dork.

Kenny and I went a decent Vietnamese restaurant, Lotus, tonight in Panama City. Not the best I’ve had, but I’ll take what I can get. Closer than the places I went in Tallahassee which is nice. Seriously, I could eat pho every day (pho ‘sho) and be a happy man :-)

The Comcast guy just left. His explanation for the “On Demand” outage is that the cable box I have, a Scientific Atlantic, has had software problems ever since Comcast started using it and that the engineers at both Scientific Atlantic and Comcast are working on it. Apparently it’s not a big deal because only 5% of subscribers use this box. The tech also said that Comcast...

I’m watching my kittens tear into a bowl of dry kitten food right now. They’re practically fighting over it. I was finally able to buy a bag of IAMS kitten food this weekend and it apparently makes a huge difference to them. I’d been meaning to for ages now, but I was mostly buying their food at Walmart and Publix, neither of which ever had it. I went to Petsmart Saturday and was...

I finally got cable and Internet access today. Sadly, the “On Demand” portion of the cable isn’t working. My wireless access point also seems to not have survived the move so I had to order a new one. I decided to take advantage of this as an opportunity to get an access point whose firmware can be replaced with Linux. Sadly, not a single access point at Best Buy was compatible...

The biggest problem with this article is that it completely neglects the issue of whether the audio book is abridged or not until the last paragraphs. To me, there is no difference listening to a book if it is unabridged. It is only abridged audio books that I would never condone.

Kudos to anybody that knows the movie that inspired the post title. Anyway, tonight is one of the first time’s I’ve had Internet access since I moved to PCB. NSWC-PC: First Impressions
I’ve been at work for three days now. I have not had the opportunity to do much so far because of the administrative overhead of being a new hire: forms, getting my access cards, more forms, getting a PC, and various training and orientations. The people I’ve met so far have been great; friendly, enthusiastic, and enjoyable to be around. Its a relief because nobody wants to work with...
