The Associated Press: Author Terry Pratchett Has Alzheimer's -

This makes me sad. He’s my favorite author and I’ve read more of his books than anything else since I was introduced to them in college.

Problems running vent for WOW - Ventrilo Tech Support -

I’ve been wondering why Vent hasn’t been working right since I upgraded to Ventrilo 3.0.0. I apparently forgot to turn on “enable access for assistive devices” when I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5, which is needed to use Push-To-Talk while WoW is running.

Geocaching in PCB

I went geocaching with Andrew and Jason from work today. I hadn’t had a chance to geocache since hanging out with Tyson at FSU. The first cache we hit required 2 mile hike to abandoned shrimp farm on West Bay. Pretty scenery, though I forgot my camera. Andrew took some pictures so I’ll have to snag and post them later. We then hit a couple of caches in Pier Park, all micros or nanos. The final cache we hit was a multi-cache. I hadn’t heard of this type before, but its neat: its a multi-step puzzle where each step gives you clues to the coordinates of the next location, with the final location being the actual cache. It was at a park next to Pier Park with an outdoor amphitheater, veteran’s memorial, and walking trail.

After running around doing all that from about 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM I tried to read a book on the porch with the kittens, but I was too tired and took a 3 hour nap!

Annals of Medicine: The Checklist: Reporting & Essays: The New Yorker -

Fantastic article on how using checklists instead of memory can measurably minimize human error and establish quality control.

Aside: Articles of this quality are exactly why I subscribe to The New Yorker.

Turn Back. Exit Village. Truck Shortcut Hitting Barrier. -

Truckers in Britain are using GPS navigation systems to find shortcuts that unfortunately take them through rural villages whose roads are not designed to handle large traffic such are trucks. Ouch.

30 Rock -

My new favorite TV show.

Boomkin-in-Training

Made it to level 45 in WoW this past weekend. I’ve finally obtained Moonkin, aka Boomkin. I think it’s time for Zul’Farrak.

Ironic that a gold bar item in WoW only sells for 6 silver at the vendors.

The Zagat History of My Last Relationship

Nov 20

A search on Google for “with a little help from my friends”, i.e. the song by the Beatles (though I was actually looking information on the Joe Cocker version), brought up a sponsored link with the title “US Government Assistance” and the URI “www.GrantsReady.com”.

I’m not going to lie, I bought the soda because I thought it had a nice ass.

Busy Busy Busy!

Life has just been too damn busy recently. I went to Tallahassee last weekend and partied hard with the friends that are still left at FSU. Lots of fun, but I don’t know if I ever want to stay up that late or get that little sleep in a weekend ever again. I hadn’t seen them in a long time, so it was worth it though. When I got home Sunday afternoon I promptly fell asleep while on the phone talking to my poor Mom. Sorry!

The girls were spayed today. A couple of shockers:

Everything else has been good. Works going well enough, though its getting to the time of year that everybody seems to be gone half the time because they have more leave than they know what to do with (maybe donate some to people like me who’ve only been here a few months?) so it’s a bit annoying when I need information from people who aren’t around and won’t be all week.

I wish I had more time for WoW, guitar, and reading! Trying to learn guitar, level up in WoW, and read a book take more time than the seemingly miniscule hours I have before going to bed each night.
