Weekend Update

It was nice having this weekend off after working the last one. It doesn’t seem like much to work two more days after a five day work week, but it really started to catch up with me during the second week. I slept a lot, getting up past noon both days (though I woke up a little after 7 AM both days and had to go back to sleep).

At the invitation of a couple of my co-workers, I went to a Magic: The Gathering booster draft tournament. The nice thing about that tournament structure is that everyone plays with cards they receive right before the tournament, which levels the playing field and makes it possible for somebody like me that doesn’t have any cards. I used to have some, but have no idea what happened to them; I assume they were thrown away.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and after some initial confusion I got into the groove of things and really enjoyed myself. Between this and playing World of Warcraft, living in Panama City is turning me into the world’s biggest dork. I think I’m okay with that.

I spent today, Sunday, cleaning my apartment and unpacking. I’m still not done, though at this point it consists of clothes I don’t wear regularly (why don’t I throw them away or donate them?) and books (I have too many damn books). i really need to get a new, nice bookshelf, but I’m somewhat unsure were to find one. Similarly, I don’t know where to go to buy rocking chairs for my porch. I thought I would find them at Home Depot or Lowe’s, but neither had any when I checked Saturday.

Its hard to believe it, but its already been two weeks since I visited Jon, Kathy, and Katie in North Carolina over Labor Day weekend. I had a great time and look forward to the next chance to do it again. While I was there I bought Dance Dance Revolution for the PS2. I haven’t had much of a chance to play it since coming home because I can only play it in the early evening because it would drive my neighbors crazy otherwise. I also got to meet Jon’s girlfriend, who was very nice and had two rambunctious little boys. The best part of the weekend was the opportunity to play Taboo, not once, but twice! Better than sex—not that I’d remember at this point—zing!
