Played racquetball at Tom Brown park today with Brad, Sarah, Christine, and Marie. Held my own against the ladies, but Brad schooled the shit out of me. In my defense, by the time we played mano-a-mano I had already played a lot and all the sweat coming into my eyes really fucked up my right contact, which killed my depth perception. Regardless, Brad’s really good, like Jarret, so he beat me quite handily.
Work this week has been going well. I’ve read quite a few papers about voting systems and security analyses of them. Frightening stuff, really. I’ve also been browsing through the source code for the Diebold voting system, which puts me into a rather elite group of people. Obviously, I can’t talk about it.
The only interesting observation I can make is that it is C++ code and I haven’t done C++ since coming to Florida State, only Java and scripting languages, so I’ve had to spend a few hours reviewing my copy of The C++ Programming Language. The good news is that I’ve become a much better programmer since I originally learned C++ so its been much easier to understand it.
I finished reading (listening, actually) to The Kite Runner yesterday afternoon. Fantastic novel. One of the best things I’ve read in a while. The story is about a man recounting his life in Afganistan before the Taliban and all the related strife occured and finishs up with his visting to the country post 9/11. As luck would have it, the author is releasing a new novel on May 22nd. He has a pleasant reading voice so I hope the audiobook version is available quickly.
