Day Tripper
I went on a great day trip today. Christine’s boyfriend Brandon was in town and Christine’s other friends Alexis and Corey (not sure if that’s how Corey spells it) had suggested a day trip of “lazy river” tubing down a nearby river.
Originally we planned on going to Ichetucknee Springs at a nearby state park, but because it is a state park we could not have beer with us. So we decided to go to Spring Creek/Chipola River (the former merges into the latter about halfway through the 3 mile route) instead since we could bring beer.
We had an interesting setup: Corey and Alexis brought a beer raft that we put a cooler stocked with a 24 can pack of Miller High Life (don’t laugh!) on top of. For our individual tubes we actually went to a nearby Walmart to buy float rafts. Think of the kind you see in a pool with a pillow and beer cozy built-in.
It was a great way to spend the day and was only (very slightly) marred by Christine’s raft getting a hole early on (she just hopped into the beer raft because she’s fairly small) and my smacking my right food on some rocks in some shallows.
To make the matters more interesting I was wearing my glasses the whole time. I used up my last pair of contacts about a month and a half ago and due to the fact that contact prescriptions are only good for a year I’ve been waiting until I start my job and have vision insurance. Wearing glasses worked out fairly well because I only got out and really swam once (when I hit my foot on the rocks) and I just stowed the glasses away for that.
I need to remember stuff like this because it’s a great activity and really breaks out of the usual activity mode my friends and I have.
